1. After all it is but love, That oft seems to us oppression; Yea, it is an easy yoke, Which He puts in our possession. Bear it with Him patiently; Do not murmur mournfully.
2. For us Jesus Christ was slain, And for us His blood was given; Murmur not in earthly pain! We shall share His joy in heaven. He to life eternal leads, Saying, “Think not on your needs!”
3. Are we chastened with the rod? Are we burdened with affliction? Yet we praise the love of God; These are tokens of affection, For His truthful lips are near, Saying, “Children, do not fear!”
4. Is our outlook filled with gloom? Do we seem as if forsaken? Yet when to His door we come, Children always find admission. He whose word is always true, Says, “I’ll open unto you!”
5. The afflictions of our time Are not worthy of the glory Promised in that realm sublime To the patiently enduring. See how Jesus as a lamb Suffered for the sins of man!
6. It was we who caused His death With our sins and our transgressions, Yet rejoice while ye have breath; Jesus bought for us remission; Reconciled us unto God. Death and suff’ring pardon brought.
7. Oh, that we might clearly see What afflictions should accomplish! Willing in God’s ways to be And obey His Spirit’s promptings, We would soon the fruits behold, Which afflictions do unfold.
