Friedrich Conrad Hiller
1662-1726
Hiller was born in 1662 at Unterowisheim near Bruchsal, Germany, just north of Strasbourg. In 1680, he began studying law at the University of Tubingen, where he later became licensed in civil and canon law. Canon law is the body of laws and regulations made or adopted by ecclesiastical authority, e.g. Laws of the Catholic Church. At his death, he was an advocate in chancery at the Ducal Court. This is one of the few hymns that he wrote, in 1711, which has been translated into English, and only one hymn of his in the Zion's Harp.
