M. Albert Knapp
1798-1864
This man holds a high place, perhaps the highest of all, in German hymn writing. He was a German Protestant theologian who is best known as a writer of hymns. His Evangelischer Liederschatz fur Kirche und Haus, published in 1837, contains 3,590 hymns, 1200 of which he wrote himself. He brought his talent as a poet and 'depth of his being' as an earnest and sincere disciple of Jesus Christ. In his hymn writing, his aim was to make known the unbounded grace of GOD and to reveal the fullness of the Holy Bible and the love of GOD to all mankind. Late in life, he suffered paralysis. He preached his last sermon on February 13, 1863, at Stuttgart and died on June 18, 1864.
