Johann Jakob Rambach

1693-1735

Johann Jakob Rambach was born at Halle, Germany on February 24, 1693, the son of a cabinet maker.  He studied in the University of Halle in medicine and later theology.  Early records state that he was very active in religious circles and the author of many works, including a large number of hymns.  Rambach at age 22, assisted with preparations for an edition of the Hebrew Bible, writing and reviewing commentaries on the books of Ruth, Esther, Nehemiah, and others.  His interest in spiritual things was reawakened and he put much energy into this project.  Unfortunately, his health suffered, requiring him to rest for several months at Polzig, near Ronneburg.  In 1719, at age 26, Rambach's health returned and he traveled to Jena, Germany, where he was a popular preacher, professor, and hymn writer.  He submitted many hymns to the Haus-Gesang-Buch, which was published in 1735, the year that Rambach died at the age of 42.

Special thanks to the Apostolic Christians who diligently labored to keep their rich musical heritage alive when most other denominations forsook it in the challenging battle of changing cultures.

Thanks be to those souls who labored to write and compose this treasure of praise, many now only known to GOD!

Above all, thanks, praise, and glory be to GOD!
