The following entry appeared in Samuel Froehlich’s personal diary on January 18, 1851:
“A letter was received today from Brother Mangold… in which he writes about his trip. He was in Wurttemberg as far as where Brother Auperle lives and was received graciously everywhere and was attended with GOD’s blessing in the meetings. On the 9th he came to Mosbach where he conducted a meeting and was arrested at ten o’clock in the morning and held until the 15th when a reply came from Illkirch (France) and also Brother Christian Hoerr of Willenbach who talked with the magistrate. He was allowed to go free, but his dismissal was on the condition that he would have to be at his home in three days. Otherwise, things went well with him and even imprisonment had its good points for the kingdom of GOD. He enclosed a nice poem which he wrote in prison.” The above hymn was the one he wrote in this prison. |
